Job Responsibilities
Mälardalen University is looking for a unit manager focused on service and support for the Department of Infrastructure and Security. Within the department, a new unit will be established that gathers the university's facility management functions in the form of space planning and room booking, as well as service and support for local services, IT workplaces, and IT support for central IT services and IT infrastructure.
The unit manager, together with the department head (who is also the campus manager and security manager) and other unit managers, forms the department's joint management team with the task of driving operational development through continuous improvements and increasing the flow between organizational parts to be as recipient-adapted as possible.
The unit's overall mission is to ensure high quality in service and support and includes:
- technical support in IT and AV
- responsibility for mail, cleaning, and caretaker services
- technical support/service
- campus bus, transportation
- coordination of physical and digital accessibility related to the unit's area of operations
- organizing the university entrance exam at the locations decided by the university
- responsibility and support for facility management and campus development including construction projects and facility changes
- providing teaching rooms, group rooms
- support for room booking and scheduling
The unit manager will have full responsibility for the unit's operations and staff within the area of operations, as well as for the unit's finances. This includes budgeting revenues and monitoring costs, managing the unit's employees, ensuring a good working environment in the unit, procurement of goods and services within the unit's area of operations, and monitoring contracts (e.g., regarding cleaning). Additionally, together with other unit managers and the department head, drive the development of the university's digitization and the use of AI tools.
Planning and development of the university's facilities will be carried out by employees in the unit and led by the department head, who is the project owner.
Since the position involves handling sensitive security information, this position is classified in a security class. A security review of the final candidate, including a background check in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585) after consent, will therefore be conducted. A prerequisite for employment is that the final candidate is approved in the security review.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- a relevant degree from a university or other education that the employer deems applicable for this position
- experience as a manager/leader with operational, financial, and/or personnel responsibility in an area that the employer deems relevant
- experience working with support and service
- experience in public administration and its framework
- experience participating in the implementation of procurements according to the Public Procurement Act
You have a strong conviction that good and recipient-adapted service is a fundamental prerequisite for the university's core tasks – education and research – to function optimally. You have the ability to lead employees in a co-creative spirit and contribute to a positive work environment within the unit and department.
You understand contexts and different perspectives and can create engagement and accountability for both the whole and the parts. You express yourself very well in speech and writing in Swedish and English and have experience in formulating formal texts such as goal and steering documents, investigations, and consultation responses. You are skilled at prioritizing, seeing different perspectives, and adapting your leadership to the situation.
Desirable
For this position, it is desirable to have:
- experience working at a government agency
- good understanding of and knowledge about the conditions for higher education and research
- experience of management/leadership within a university/college
- experience in process-developing digitization
- experience working with contract follow-up with suppliers
- experience being part of a management group
- experience and competence regarding change management and quality work
- management or leadership training
